🛠 eSIM Stuck on “Activating”? Here’s What To Do
Sometimes on iPhones, an eSIM might appear stuck on “Activating” or show “Activation Failure.” Don’t worry—this is usually a normal part of the process before you arrive at your destination.
✅ What’s Really Happening?
If you’ve:
-
Installed the eSIM profile successfully
-
But haven’t reached the country/region the eSIM is meant for
Then it’s expected for the eSIM to stay in “Activating” mode until you are physically in the coverage zone. Once you’re there, the eSIM will finish activating and connect to the local network automatically.
🔍 Troubleshooting Checklist
1. Not Yet at Your Destination
-
If you’re still in your home country or outside the eSIM’s supported region, the SIM won’t activate yet.
-
Example: A Japan eSIM won’t activate in Australia. It will show “Activating” until you’re in Japan.
2. Data Roaming is Off
-
Go to Settings > Mobile > [Your eSIM Line] > Data Roaming and turn it ON.
-
Data roaming must be enabled for activation to complete.
3. Correct eSIM Plan?
-
Double-check that you’ve purchased an eSIM for the correct destination country/region.
📝 What You Can Expect
Even if your eSIM says “Activating” now:
-
The profile is already installed and ready.
-
The countdown of your plan does not start until it successfully connects to the supported network.
